Police Make Arrest in Monterey Market Robbery

On January 27, 2018 at 6:32 p.m. Roanoke Police were dispatched to the 4300 block of Old Mountain Road NE, the Monterey Market, to investigate a report of a robbery. Two men came into the store with what appeared to be firearms, took cash from the register and from the store clerk, and left on foot. No one was hurt in the incident. 

Responding officers set up a perimeter in an attempt to locate the suspects but did not find them. During the course of the investigation, officers developed information that the suspects might have been traveling in a white Toyota SUV. A lookout was given to all officers with information about the robbery and the white Toyota SUV. The same night, at 8:55 p.m., an officer on directed patrol in reference to the robberies, noticed a white Toyota SUV matching the description of the suspect vehicle sitting in the parking lot of the Flag Mart at the corner of Salem Avenue and 12th Street. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 1000 block of Patterson Avenue SW. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers recovered potential evidence from the Monterey Market robbery. including a BB pistol that resembled a real firearm.

Officers arrested three of the vehicle's occupants and charged all of them with robbery. The three men are identified as Kwymique Tylil Anderson, age 23, of Roanoke. Yusuf Terrick Leach, age 26, of Roanoke, and Michael Alexander Taylor, age 24, of Roanoke. All three were taken to Roanoke City Jail and held without bond.  

In a subsequent search of a residence in the 1300 block of Moorman Avenue NW, officers found additional physical evidence that may be related to other recent convenience store robberies. T
