Investigation continues in weekend officer-involved shooting in Lynchburg

February 22, 2018 -

The Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney said after initial review of the facts surrounding the use of force by the Lynchburg Police Department in an officer-involved shooting on Link Road on Saturday, February 17, 2018, a Commonwealth's Attorney outside this jurisdiction has been assigned to the case.

The City of Lynchburg's Commonwealth's Attorney, Bethany Harrison, said it's the best decision for the full investigation to be conducted by another Commonwealth's Attorney.

Walker Sigler was shot in the leg after police said that they were investigating an open door at his house around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday morning, according to Mayor Joan Foster.

Officers with the Lynchburg Police Department said they walked into the home and announced that they were there to investigate suspicious activity, then met a man and fired their weapons at him, hitting him in the leg.

Lynchburg Fire Department personnel were immediately requested to respond.

Harrison has a long-standing working relationship with one of the officers involved in the incident.
