A spokesperson for Roanoke County Public Schools said a student at Cave Spring Middle School brought a loaded handgun to school Thursday morning.
Chuck Lionberger said it's important to note that the action did not disrupt the school day at any point and the school never went on lockdown.
He said the student brought the gun to school on a dare and did not intend to harm anyone.
Lionberger also said school officials and the Roanoke County Police Department responded swiftly to the school and took immediate action and the students were never in any danger.
Students and staff are safe and continued their school day.
