Driver arrested on DUI charges after crashing bus carrying students

March 2, 3018 - Virginia State Police said it's investigating a bus crash in Pulaski County.

Police said a bus from West Georgia Technical College was driving north on I-81 near the 104 mile marker around 8:15 a.m. this morning when it drifted into the right lane and sideswiped a tractor trailer.

After sideswiping the tractor trailer, police said the bus ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected, then ran off the road a second time before it hit an embankment and overturned.

All 13 passengers on the bus had non-life threatening injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals.

Police said they are being housed at Radford Hospital while waiting for another bus from the college.

The bus driver, Willie Walker, 59, of Carrollton, Georgia was arrested and charged with DUI-D (driving while under the influence of drugs) and possession of marijuana.

Police said fatigue is also being investigated as a factor.

Walker was taken to the New River Valley Regional Jail.

The crash remains under investigation.  For updates, check ABC-13 WSET.
