Danville nursing student wins $100K in Virginia Lottery

March 7, 2018 -  One Danville nursing student found out she won $100,000 playing a Virginia Lottery game.

Santayshia Wilson bought the Cash 5 tickets at the Quick N Plenty Market on Mount Cross Road for the February 22, 2018 drawing.

She told the Virginia Lottery she selected the winning numbers, 8-10-12-23-26, using a combination of parents' birthdays.

“My heart stopped. I didn’t really believe it!" she said when she learned she'd won the $100,000 top prize. 

Wilson says she intends to help her family with her winnings.

Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.When it comes to education, the Virginia Lottery is game. Ms. Wilson bought her winning ticket in Danville, which received more than $6.3 million in lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
