VDOT: Route 11 over Natural Bridge should be moved

April 12, 3018 - VDOT and Radford University have published a new study that shows Natural Bridge is safe for car traffic, but building a road over the bridge would be a bad idea.

However, the study goes on to say that eventually cars should be rerouted away from the bridge.

Route 11, which is a part of the 90-foot long bedrock formation crosses Cedar Creek Gorge approximately 190 feet above the creek bed, is the only known highway alignment resting on a naturally-occurring bedrock formation of this nature.
