Tips from the BBB: How to avoid weather related home repair scams

posted by Caroline Cook -

April 16, 2018 - The Better Business Bureau is reminding those affected by Sunday's storms to use caution prior to hiring a contractor to fix damage.

They said the aftermath of such storms often attracts people looking to take advantage of those in need.

In some cases, they mentioned that storm chasers often solicit neighborhoods hit hard by severe storms offering to do immediate repair work.

The homeowner may pay for a small amount of work to be done, only to be told after the fact that more work was completed and they now owe very high amounts of money. Or, in other cases, the workers take the money, don’t do the work, and are never heard from again.
