posted by Caroline J. Cook -

May 10, 2018 - The Wythe County Sheriff's Office is investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide.

Officers were called to a home in the 700 block of Murphyville Road in the Rural Retreat last night around 6:00 p.m.  When they arrived on the scene, they found a man and a woman dead inside the house.

The victims have been identified as Peggy Ann Cook, 72, and Curtis M. Cook, 76. They were married. The preliminary investigation has determined that Curtis shot Peggy first and then turned the gun on himself. Deputies say the bodies were discovered by a family member.

Both bodies have been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for an autopsy.

This is an on-going investigation.  Virginia State Police are assisting the sheriff's office.
