Va. mom shoots New Zealand man who daughter met online; tried to break in

June 26, 2018 - A New Zealand man was shot by the mother of a teen he had met and was communicating with online.

WRIC reports that 25-year-old Troy George Skinner attempted to break into the home of the teen when he was shot bu the girl's mother and arrested on June 22.

Skinner flew from New Zealand to Los Angeles on June 20, before traveling to Goochland County.

The man and the woman's 14-year-old daughter were communicating with one another through Discord, an online app to connect people to discuss gaming.

Skinner was repeatedly told by the mother that she had a gun and to leave the property.

After breaking a window with a landscape stone and declining to leave, he was shot in the neck.

Officials in Goochland said Skinner's arrival was not expected.

"He was not invited here. He was not expected here. He had been told in the past that this daughter no longer wished to communicate with him," Sheriff James Agnew said.

They said Skinner also had a knife and duct tape on hand when he arrived to the home.
