Clear The Shelter Event Finds Forever Homes For 89,000 Pets

posted by Mia Adams -

Thanks to a joint effort by local news stations and hundreds of animal shelters across the country, over 88,000 animals now have a forever home. The event, Clear the Shelters, is a nationwide pet adoption drive sponsored by NBC and Telemundo stations that just took place and was a big success.

Since the event started back in 2015, more than 243,000 animals have been adopted. In the Tampa Bay area alone, 2,358 pets found their forever homes from 23 participating animal shelters. On the last day of the event, August 18th, 854 adoptions happened in one day. The campaign was so successful, some shelters were literally left cleared!

The Lynchburg Humane Society had 63 adoptions during the event and the Roanoke SPCA had 34. Both still have plenty of animals that need forever homes!

Our #ClearTheShelters weekend was a success! We had 63 total adoptions this weekend, but there are still more pets...
