Kevin Buckland, who served as Chief of Police in Rich Creek, was arrested Monday and arraigned yesterday on charges of rape and abduction.
Online court records indicate that the alleged rape happened on June 11, 2018, while the reported abduction occurred on August 16, 20108.
Buckland, 46, served as the police chief in a one-cop town from 2003 until 2006, when he was fired.
According to a report by The Roanoke Times on November 28, 2006, the town council asked Buckland to resign in 2006 but he refused. He never elaborated on why and called it a contractual matter.
He is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail.
This is a developing story.
