Virginia Teacher Starts New Tradition to Welcome Kids to School

It's the beginning of a new school year and with that comes new traditions for both students and teachers in Nelson County.

Getting the school day started can be tough for some students, but a teacher at Nelson Middle School is doing her best to change that.

Katherine Baron-Stump is a special education teacher at the middle school.

On the first day, she decided to wear a costume to greet students as they got off the bus.

After seeing their reactions, she decided to make it a tradition.

"Every day should start with a smile when you walk into school and it's important to start their day off happy and if I can do that I will do it every day," Stump said.

Stump also started a clothing closet in her classroom.
