AAA: Gas Prices Expected to Spike Dramatically as Hurricane Nears

posted by Caroline Cook -

AAA reports that gas prices are expected to spike as Hurricane Florence approaches the east coast.

As of now, gas prices remain relatively stable across the country as gasoline demand has dipped slightly and gasoline inventories incrementally.

The threat of Hurricane Florence will likely have an impact on East Coast gas prices if the storm continues to follow its projected path.

According to the Senior Public Affairs Specialist for AAA Tammy Arnette, motorists can expect the spike in prices to be brief, but possibly dramatic.

Here are Monday's average gas prices per gallon as provided by AAA:

  • National -$2.85
  • Virginia -$2.61
  • Charlottesville -$2.59
  • Fredericksburg -$2.55
  • Harrisonburg - $2.57
  • Norfolk Area - $2.60
  • Richmond -$2.58
  • Roanoke - $2.56

AAA will continue to monitor the storm and provide updates.
