City of Lynchburg officials advise residents to remain vigilant even though recent weather reports show that the Lynchburg area is not expected to experience the full force of Hurricane Florence.
Forecasts are predicting the Lynchburg area to receive rainfall late this weekend, possible for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, wind gusts could reach 20 to 35 mph. These conditinos could result in downed trees and power lines. Residents, especially those in low-lying areas and near creeks, should be aware that there is the potential for flooding as well.
Should it become necessary to evacuate residents in flood prone areas, a shelter will be set up at the Salvation Army located at 2215 Park Avenue.
Residents are encouraged to follow the City on social media for updates and to sign up for the City's emergency notification system HERE.
Citizens should only call 911 for emergencies. Road condition information is available by calling 511 and general information concerning sheltering and other hurricane related information is available by calling 211.
