Virginia State Police and the Campbell County Sheriff's Office are investigating a series of crimes that began Friday night. The result is that 1 person is dead, another injured, and an officer was shot.
Police say Tony A. Kidd, 53, is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries at Lynchburg General Hospital, and is the suspect in all of the incidents.
Earlier Saturday, Robin L. Chenault, 65, was found deceased and a 69-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries at a residence on Lucinda Dr.
A chase Saturday afternoon ended as a shootout with Lynchburg and Virginia State police at the intersection of Candlers Mountain Rd and Sunnymeade Rd.

We can confirm that Lynchburg Police Department patrol officers were involved in a shooting earlier this afternoon (10/6/18). A Lynchburg Police Officer was shot during the incident, as well as the suspect. Both were transported to the hospital. The suspect is in critical condition, and the officer is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury. More information to follow.
The identity of the officer is not yet known.
VDOT reports that portions of Candlers Mountain Road and Sunnymeade Road in Campbell County closed for an extended period of time.
