The Lynchburg Police Department has released new details into the arrest of a Liberty University football player.
Police said officers responded to a home in the 1300 block of Wards Ferry Road around 2:39 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, for an unknown call for service from a female.
The woman told police she got into an argument with her boyfriend and it escalated. She said the man hit her, strangled he and took her cell phone from her when she threatened to cal police and wouldn't leave the room.
Police have identified the man as Keith Lamar Best, 19.
Officers reported seeing externally visible marks on the victim from the assault and strangulation, but the police report does not indicate medical treatment.
Best, a player on the Liberty University football team, was charged with assault and battery, strangulation, abduction, and preventing from summonsing law enforcement.
Liberty University head football coach, Turner Gill, says the redshirt freshman has been "dismissed" from the team for violating team policy.
