Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) have sent a notice to parents after a volunteer was arrested on several child sex crimes.
Jared Anderson, 40, is charged with 21 counts of taking indecent liberties with a child under the age of 15, 21 counts of use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children, and 11 counts of possession of child porn.
Lynchburg City Schools said the arrest is not in connection to any current or former student.
Anderson was a volunteer through various supervised programs
Lynchburg Police said they've been working with the Fargo Police Department in North Dakota, along with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Fargo, ND Resident Agency, and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations on the case.
LCS said Anderson was not an employee, and administration is not “aware of any time during which he was put in direct supervision of or assigned responsibility to any individual LCS students during school-related events.”
While they don’t have any knowledge of contact between Anderson and any LCS students, they said they were notifying parents and guardians as an ‘added measure’ to keep children safe.
They also said the incident is an important reminder to talk to children about interactions with adults.
