Wythe County: A Deputy Is Injured; Suspect Killed At Greyhound Station

A Wythe County Sheriff's Deputy is recovering in the hospital after being shot by an armed robbery suspect early this morning. 

Police said the incident happened around 12:18 a.m. when deputies responded to an emergency call for a robbery at a hotel in the 2500 block of East Lee Highway near Exit 80 off of I-77/I-81.

 They said the robbery suspect left the scene by the time deputies and Virginia State Police troopers arrived on the scene.

According to police, while a search for the suspect was happening, a trooper and a deputy located the suspect at around 12:40 a.m. instead the Greyhound bus stop building in the 900-block of Max Meadows Road.

Officers said upon being approached by the deputy and trooper, the male suspect fired a gun at the officers.
