ORIGINAL STORY:  December 30, 2018

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help locating a suspect who escaped deputy custody.

Officials say a deputy noticed a car near the Radford Travel Center on Tyler Road at around 1:23 a.m. Sunday that had been reported stolen from Pulaski County.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but they did not stop, and a pursuit ensued. With help from the Christiansburg Police Department and Virginia State Police, the two subjects eventually stopped the car and were arrested after a short foot pursuit.

Officials charged the passenger, 22-year-old Cynthia Renee Turpin of Pulaski, with Narcotics Possession and Conspiracy to Distribute Narcotic.

She is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail with no bond.

The driver of the car, 26-year-old Cody Ryan Drain of Pulaski, was being held in connection to the stolen vehicle and other charges including DUID (Driving Under the Influence - Drugs).

Drain was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital to have his blood drawn to be tested for the DUID. After leaving the hospital, he was taken to the magistrates office in Christiansburg.

While there, officials say Drain was able to partially remove his restraints, gain access to the driving compartment of a deputy's vehicle, and stole it.

Drain abandoned the deputy vehicle at the end of Elliott Creek Road in the Pilot area of Montgomery County and fled on foot.

Search teams from multiple agencies tracked Drain down to the Craigs Mountain Road area, but have not been able to locate him.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone in that area of the county to contact them if they have noticed anything suspicious.

The same goes for anyone with information on Drain's whereabouts.
