Virginia General Assembly members from the House and Senate joined together Monday to announce a unified effort to pursue gaming legislation in the 2019 Session.
The legislation will allow for local residents in Danville and other areas that include Portsmouth and Bristol to choose whether to pursue major economic development projects for their city.
"I am supporting moving this legislation forward so that local residents will have a referendum in Danville," said Delegate Danny Marshall (R-14, Danville). "If this legislation is approved, then voters in Danville will have the final decision. Like folks in Southwest Virginia and Portsmouth, residents in Danville, and across Southside Virginia, are in jeopardy of being left behind as other regions of the Commonwealth grow and prosper. The thousands of new jobs would boost our regional economies. The millions of dollars in additional tax revenue would fund a host of critical public needs, including new schools and public safety."
