Lynchburg: 15-Hour Standoff Ends, Man With Knives Taken To Hospital

Lynchburg Police said a standoff between officers and a man threatening to hurt himself is over after 15 hours. 

Police were dispatched around 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning to check on a man who was reportedly lying on the railroad tracks near Jefferson Ride Parkway. 

After arriving on scene, officers said they located an adult man threatening to harm himself, armed with knives. 

The Lynchburg Police Department Crisis Negotiations Team and Tactical Team said they responded to the scene after the initial contact with the subject was made.

Trained LPD negotiators began communicating with the man soon after and continued to do so for a total of 15 hours.

Police said at the conclusion of the incident on Wednesday morning, LPD Tactical Team members were able to take the man into custody around 1:15 a.m.

He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital on an Emergency Custody Order for an evaluation.
