Truck Driver Charged With Crashing Into Chatham Church

Virginia State Police said a truck driver from Pennsylvania crashed into a church last night leaving a lot of damage.

Police said Herman L. Wicker, Jr., 65, of Altoona, was going north on Route 29 when he ran off the left side of the road and through the median crossing the southbound lanes around 10:40 p.m.  He continued into the parking lot of Open Bible Baptist Church, hitting three parked vehicles and then the church.

Pastor Tim Kyser said this is the third incident with a tractor trailer in his church.

Wicker was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
