Lynchburg Police Officer Will Not Face Charges After Shooting A Suspect

A police officer accused of shooting a man in Lynchburg last year will not face charges.

Officer M. Iazzi, assigned to Patrol Operations, shot his department issued handgun at a suspect, identified as 22-year-old Malik J'Kwar Andrews, who then fled the scene on foot after raising his gun at the officer.

Commonwealth's Attorney Bethany Harrison said Officer Iazzi responded to Norwood Street for the report of a trespasser on December 30, 2018, around 2 p.m.Iazzi was told that the 911 caller hung up and was advised that the address had an officer safety alert related to Andrews.The person who initially called 911 called back and told police that a fight was in progress.Get the full story from ABC-13 WSET.
