Lynchburg: Flu cases jump from 285 to 345 in just one week

It's that time of year again and viral infections are on the rise in the area, and that includes the flu.

There is a lot of illness spreading around at the moment, but Central Medical Director Doctor Chris Thomson says it's nothing to worry about.

"The number of influenza cases that we're seeing is about average, about an average year," said Dr. Thomson. "It's actually a little bit better than last year. if you remember last year we had a very early season, we had some very serious pediatric illnesses early in the season last year, really throughout the country."

According to data by Centra, the confirmed tested flu cases they've seen has jumped to 345 from last week's 285 confirmed cases.
