Virginia State Police said they have charged a driver after he crashed on I-81 and landed on the road below.
Police said Quinton A. Smith, 24, of Troutville was traveling north on I-81 on Sunday, February 24, 2019, 5 p.m. when he ran off the left side of the interstate and continued into the median.
He ended up hitting a concrete barrier guard rail along the southbound lanes of I-81 at the overpass, went airborne, and landed on Route 311, or Thompson Memorial Boulevard.
Police said Smith was ejected from the vehicle onto Route 311.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Smith was charged with reckless driving, as speed was a factor in the crash, police said.
