Local brewery apologizes to Hindus; reviewing name of beer

Old Salem Brewery Company is apologizing for a beer that shares its name with a Hindu deity.

The Spanish Milk Stout tap beer called "Hanuman," was named after a song by the band Rodrigo y Gabriela, according to a brewery spokesperson.

Hanuman is the Hindu monkey God and hero of the Ramayana.

Hindu statesman, and president of University Society of Hinduism, Rajan Zed, issued a statement saying the inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts or symbols for commercial or other agenda is not okay.
