A Montgomery County couple facing multiple child sex crimes appeared in court Thursday. Police charged McKenzie Hellman with killing 2-year-old Steven Meek II in January. Hellman, and the boy's mother Kayla Thomas, are also both charged with committing multiple child sex crimes against the little boy and another child.
Thomas and Hellman had preliminary hearings at the Montgomery County courthouse Thursday afternoon. Thomas' attorney waived her hearing, sending it directly to a grand jury. As for Hellman, The commonwealth motioned to move his preliminary hearing so they can wait for the autopsy to be completed.
Thomas and Hellman are collectively facing 13 charges that include child sex crimes, pornography and child abuse. Hellman is charged with felony murder.
