Honorable Lacey Putney to be laid to rest next week

BEDFORD, Va. (WSET) -- The honorable Lacey Putney will be laid to rest next week in Bedford.

Putney passed away at the age of 89 over the weekend.

The family announced that his visitation will be Tuesday, September 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. as well from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home on North Bridge Street in Bedford.

A service will follow on Wednesday, September 6, from noon to 3 p.m.

Putney, the longest-serving member of the Virginia General Assembly, will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda in Richmond.

There will be a brief prayer service at noon in the Rotunda, led by House Speaker William J. Howell and Senate President pro tempore Stephen D. Newman.

Immediately afterward, members, staff, and the public will be able to pay their respects until 3 p.m.

His funeral will be Thursday, September 7, at 2 p.m. at Bedford Baptist Church on Oadkwood Street in Bedford and a private burial will follow.
